Overview:
GMC has taken its already capable Sierra AT4X to the next level with the 2025 Sierra AT4X AEV Edition, now available with the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine. This truck is built for off-road enthusiasts who demand both rugged capability and premium comfort. With AEV (American Expedition Vehicles) upgrades, improved underbody protection, and the efficiency of a diesel powertrain, the 2025 AT4X AEV Duramax Diesel is a serious contender in the luxury off-road truck segment.
Fuel Economy: 19 MPG Combined – not bad for a big truck, right? But don’t forget, diesel fuel is generally more expensive than gasoline, typically costing anywhere from 25 cents to 50 cents per gallon more, depending on the location and current market prices. Compared to the standard 6.2L V8 gas engine, the Duramax diesel offers:

The 10-speed transmission is smooth and responsive, ensuring power is delivered efficiently across various terrains. The diesel engine’s low-end torque makes it particularly well-suited for towing heavy loads and handling off-road obstacles with ease.
Interior & Technology
Despite its rugged exterior, the AT4X AEV Duramax is luxurious inside. The cabin features:
– Full-Grain Leather Seats with massaging front seats
– 12.3-inch Digital Gauge Cluster & 13.4-inch Touchscreen (with Google Built-In)
– Bose Premium Audio System
– Head-Up Display & 360-Degree Camera System
– Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
Weird feature: the running board was very narrow – I could barely fit my foot on it. Considering this truck requires you to be tall or use a step stool, it an incomplete feature.
Social Meter Rating:
According to Goods Unite Us, GMC’s donation distribution is 46% Democrat and 54% Republican – you can check out their rating at the link in the comments. GM owns GMC, along with other car manufacturers like Buick and Chevrolet. General Motors still recognizes the important of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion & has this on their website:
- Supporting a healthy ecosystem and strong local economies is critical to bringing our vehicles to a wide range of customers and GM has several “firsts” that reflect that:
- First Woman CEO and Chair in the auto industry.
- First Fortune 500 company to have a Black director on its Board.
- First and only automaker to have a women’s dealer program.
- First automaker to establish formal supplier diversity and diverse dealer programs.
Survivability Score: 8.5/10
Off-Road Escape Ability: 9.5/10. When the cities become overrun, you’ll need a truck that can get you off the beaten path—and the Sierra AT4X AEV is built for that. Plus you can go 500 miles on one tank!
